This is in part a response to watching this video, but it goes into a more in depth analysis of the core of my philosophy.

Point well taken. It is very possible that in some case an individual wants to live in the world where limbs are being blown off people. I, however, do not believe that if you get to the core of the belief of an Islamist that they would say that. I am pretty sure that they just justify what they are doing by the eventual goal of living by "the god's law" in the very end. Coming back to the scenario, where a person actually wants to live in the violent world, then we can deal with the goal of that specific person. It will still not be "idealism" that is the problem.
But what if the means and the ends were aligned? Were the motives of the bombers ever revealed? What if it was indeed an "offensive jihad" as Howard Bloom suggested? I think he was actually correct, except he used the concept of "idealism" too generally. He was specifically referring to *invalid* (illogical) idealism (i.e. Religion), which inevitably leads to all sorts of contradictions and absurdities, and are often used as invalid justifications for violence. Rational/logical idealism is probably not so worrisome? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offensive_jihad
