Just a quick followup. You hinted that you disagreed with science, or in some vague way hinted that there are alternatives. I believe you provided "samsara" as something that would fit into such an alternative, "outside the realm of science". I just wanted to clarify that "science" is simply rational and empirical thinking. You might disagree with some of it's proposed theories, I don't think you can disagree with the method in general, nor propose any better alternative. "Samsara", from what I quickly gleaned from wikipedia, ranges from a poetic commentary on "life" in the best case, to religious fairy tale in the worst case (related to reincarnation and magical souls). Either way, they can't be immune from scientific scrutiny, or rational thought. (Well, not if you want to remain sane.) Philosophy is a very general term, but generally means the logical and rational quest for truth. It can be argued that science and philosophy are the same thing. Fuck the birth of Jesus :p.
