I have given my support to Anonymous movement (yes, i classify them as a movement even though they disagree); however, a couple of days ago i came across the video on YouTube titled “Anonymous - Operation DarkNet” where one Anonymous boasts about the beginning of the operation to shut down an anonymous hosting provider on Tor. According to the timeline of the events Anonymous has shut down this hosting provider after finding links to the sites that they host and there they came across child pornography.
Now many will ask, what is wrong with shutting down abuse of children. And of course, if these sites were truly the sites of child abuse (and not a play on words done by Anonymous), it seems reasonable. However, to this day Anonymous were claiming to support freedom of speech. For example, when they were attacking capitalist insitutions which are complicit in murder by the nature of paying for wars, Anonymous wouldn't completely destroy them. This (at least to me) means that Anonymous takes free speech and resistance to censorship to the area of a principle which can't be crossed. I believed that they would support freedom of speech even when they disagreed with it, and thus i called them comrades. But here they are shutting down the entire hosting provider (the anonymous hosting provider even) just because they had run into a site that they host.
Here is a good post of somebody on Tor:Attacking the onion is the most pathetic shit anonymous has ever done. It's like burning a city down because you don't like the red light district, it's also hypocrisy in the most obvious way. "We want freedom, but only for people who think like us". The claim that Anonymous is a pluralist society with a plethora of mindsets is falsified by this, and there's no reason to support their actions anymore. And a fair warning: Poking the bear isn't a good idea, people who surfed the onion before this "deep web sooo mysterious" bullshit, which became popular among anonymous, are not exactly the kind of people you want to piss off.*

I've never had a lot of optimism, when it comes to "groups" like anonymous...It appears, anyone can join and do as they please. There's also this underlying theme of elitism and contempt I've noticed, the likes of which would fit in perfect with groups like "perverted justice" [at times, I wonder if there isn't substantial crossover]... That video has hate speech in it...I would also suggest, that the comment about certain people not being able to use the internet, without fear of death...it constitutes an act of terrorism. There's a lot of people, who think that because their chosen target is such a widely held scapegoat, that they can make terrorist threats against people, without consequence... Sad and pathetic thing...most people I've seen [and paid follow up attention to], do get away with it... Oh...I'm not suggesting censorship [I've been victimized by just that, several times over]...No, leave it up and let people see what scumbags they are. Oh...and in response to something you expressed...I just wanted to add my own opinion, that just because "child pornography" [whatever that is supposed to include, since it's got so much unfairly lumped in with it] is alleged to be on a website, does not mean that "children were sexually exploited and abused"...Simple pornography, irregardless of the nature, does not automatically equate to "abuse", or sexual violation. ...I just thought that was fitting, to say here.
There are multiple factions of Anon, an many do not know each other, due to being recently joined. This faction felt that the reason for the dark net attack attention was to improve public validity, in order to keep increase respectability and enable Anon to step up it's effect in motivating the world occupy movement. Well said. It's funny how the first thing that person looking for a cesorship resistant solution wanted, was censorship. In fairness, I guess it's not the easiest concept to fully grasp -- even though it's trivial to say and theorize. (Who was it that said Freedom of Speech is *only* meant for the ideas we despise.) Social views on pedos are quite interesting. I think every society almost seems to require an "outcasts" (lepers, gays, blacks, women, pedos, etc...) -- almost as if it was an evolutionary/biological necessity. Of course, as you explained a number of times, it makes no logical sense -- but people are still overwhelmingly controlled by it, emotionally. On a positive note, it serves as a good test to differentiate enlightened people, from knee-jerk automatons.
